This guide will walk you through what AmBetter covers, how to find a rehab center, and how to make the most of your benefits.

What Does AmBetter Cover for Drug Rehab?

  • Outpatient Programs: Flexible treatment options that allow patients to receive therapy and support while living at home.
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): The use of approved medications alongside counseling to manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Detox Services: Supervised medical detox to safely manage the withdrawal process.
  • Counseling and Therapy: Individual and group therapy to support long-term recovery.

Coverage details and limitations can vary based on your specific AmBetter plan and state regulations.

How to Find an AmBetter-Approved Rehab Center

Step 1: Contact AmBetter Customer Service

Reach out to AmBetter’s customer service to confirm which rehab services your plan covers and request a list of approved facilities. This ensures that you select a center that is within your network and eligible for coverage.

Step 2: Search for Accredited Treatment Centers

Visit the websites of local treatment centers or call directly to confirm if they accept AmBetter insurance. Many facilities list their accepted insurance providers online.

Step 3: Verify Your Benefits

Before committing to a rehab program, verify your benefits with AmBetter or through the treatment center’s insurance team. They can help confirm what portions of your treatment will be covered and what out-of-pocket expenses you may incur.

How to Use AmBetter for Drug Rehab

Understand Your Plan

Different AmBetter plans offer varying levels of coverage. Familiarize yourself with your plan’s benefits, including deductibles, co-pays, and any required pre-authorizations for rehab services.

Obtain Pre-Authorization (if required)

Some rehab programs may require pre-authorization from AmBetter to ensure that treatment is covered. Your healthcare provider or the treatment center’s staff can assist with submitting the necessary documents and medical justification for your rehab program.

Prepare for Out-of-Pocket Costs

While AmBetter covers many rehab services, there may still be co-pays or other expenses. Understanding your financial responsibility ahead of time can help you budget for any additional costs.

Taylor Lilley CDCA, PRS

Growing up in Louisiana with addiction running rampant on both sides of my family. A life away from drugs and alcohol seemed impossible for someone like me. I remember what it was like sitting across from someone thinking there is no way they could ever understand what I was going through.

Sharing my experience offers a credibility and a certain type of trust with clients that only someone who has walked down this road can illustrate. To immerse myself further into the field of addiction, I am currently studying at Cincinnati State for Human and Social Services.  I hope I never forget where I came from, if I can do it, so can you!

Ben Lemmon LCDC III

Hello, my name is Ben Lemmon, and I’m the Vice President and Clinical Director at Ohio Community Health Recovery Centers. I’ve been working in the addiction and mental health field since 2013 and decided to enter the field after overcoming my own challenges with addiction.

When I first meet a client, I always explain to them that the reason we are meeting is because they are not capable of obtaining or maintaining sobriety, and my goal is to create a person that can maintain sobriety. I believe a person’s personality is made up of their thoughts, feelings and actions and my job is to help clients identify the thoughts, feelings and actions that have them disconnected from recovery and provide them with the tools to live a healthy and happy life.
