Six years ago, I was homeless and stuck in addiction. I had lost almost everything: my sense of purpose, stability, and hope for the future. When I entered The Prospect House, a long-term treatment facility, it gave me something I hadn’t had in a long time: a chance. That opportunity changed the entire direction of my life. Through the structure, accountability, and support I found there, I began to rebuild not only my life but my belief that change was possible.
Working in this field wasn’t something I ever imagined for myself. In the beginning, I just wanted to stay sober and learn how to live again. But over time, I realized that helping others find the same hope I was given was the most meaningful thing I could do. My journey from client to therapist taught me that recovery is about more than staying clean — it’s about connection, purpose, and using your story to remind others that they’re not alone.
Being part of OCHRC has deepened that purpose even more. Every day, I see people rediscover themselves and find reasons to keep going. Watching those transformations reminds me where I came from and why I stay committed to this work. Recovery gave me my life back, and now I get to help others find theirs.
